Hi everyone,
I've enjoyed following this Forum for a while now, and decided it was about time I introduced myself.
I'm from England originally, but moved to Holland in 1990, met my (American) wife there, we had our first son in 1993, then we moved to the Bay Area, CA, in 1995. We had our second son in 97, then moved to San Diego just over a year ago.
We'd only needed one car until San Diego, but now I needed something (very) cheap for commuting. I figured a bike would be more fun than a car, but had never ridden bikes to any extent, so I took the MSF course. Immediately afterwards, I bought a brand new 98 Savage in May 1999.
I liked the look of the Savage very much, but I have to say that its price was the deciding factor: $2500 including a 5-year extended warranty. It was cheap because it was the last 98 model left in the dealership, so they were keen to be rid of it. I was off to a good start.
My commute is ten miles of freeways in the morning, and ten miles of ordinary roads in the evening, when the freeways are too clogged to bother with. The Savage is my only transport, so I ride come rain or shine (in San Diego, mostly "shine"!). With some occasional fun rides, I've covered 5000 miles now, and enjoyed every one of them.
My bike is still in stock condition, and has been completely trouble-free (touchwood) - just normal servicing and oil changes. Since finding this Forum, I've become very tempted by the SuperTrapp exhaust. I'm holding off, because I have a feeling that as soon as I do one thing to the bike, there'll be a slippery slope of other changes that I'll 'need' to make!
Well, that's enough about me. If you've read this far, thanks for your interest, and ride safe.
Cheers,
ant
